Dilip Tirkey – There are many other areas which have been backward in India even today, there are many reasons for their backwardness, such that some states are backward due to development, then some states are backward due to local problems like Naxal, Maoism.
Adivasis especially in the castes are considered backward and not even because they have been exploited for centuries.
But today we are going to talk about a trail of tribals, about Turkey.
If, however, from the point of view of history, Tirkey Kashtas are also counted in backward castes, but this is not so in Orissa. Because here this poet has created a history in the game of hockey, which is impossible to forget. Because what Orissa has done to get hockey to top place, hardly any other state has done it. If you talk about hockey in Orissa, then Dilip Tirkey, Ignatius Tirkey, Prabodh Tirkey, Subhadra Pradhan, Binita Toppo, Brijendra Lakra, Jyothi Suneeta Kullu, Lazaras Barla etc. are such names that have transported Indian hockey at the international level.
But today we are talking about former captain Dilip Tirkey, who was honored with the Padma Bhushan by the Indian Hockey team. Dilip was born on November 25, 1977 in Sundergarh district of Orissa. Dilip’s father Vincent Tirkey was a CRPF jawan, then the same mother, Regina Tirkey, home homemaker. Dilip’s early life was very great. If the mother received a ritual, hockey from the same father.
Let us tell you that Dilip played his first national level hockey match at the age of 15. And in 1995, England’s Agnest played its first international hockey match. You will be surprised to know that Dilip Tirkey has the record of playing 412 Hockey International matches. Apart from this, Dilip is the only tribal player who has represented India in three Olympics (1996 Atlanta Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics).
Dilip has also worked in Railways and Air India along with his hockey carrier. In 1996, Dilip gave his services to Air India Bhubaneswar as Deputy Managing Director.
Dileep has received hundreds of honors in respect of the work done by Dilip in the field of hockey, some of which are main honors-
- 1996 Ekalavya Award
- 2002 Arjuna Award
- 2004 Padma Shri
Apart from this, Dilip has also received many awards along with the Odisha Living Legend Award.
Dilip Tirkey’s Hockey Playing Strategy, while discusifying, looking at the goal marking skills to score goals, Dilip Tirkey is counted among the world’s best defender.
Right now, due to the problem in health in 2010, Dilip Tirkey has retired from hockey. But on 22 March 2012, Dilip joined the Rajya Sabha on the proposal of the political party of Orissa, the Biju Janata Dal. And right now, to give a new direction to hockey from politics, this is a member of Rajya Sabha with this effort.
The Indian hockey team has so far won 8 gold medals, which is more than any team in any country. But in our country today the indifference towards hockey is seen. So today it is necessary that hockey should be brought forward and once again the history of 1928 will be made.
