The hockey magician Dhyanchand was born on August 29, 1905 in the Rajput house of Allahabad. Dhyanchand is said to be equal to Bradley in football and cricket in Pelé.

In 1956, he was awarded Padma Bhushan. His birthday has been declared as India’s National Sports Day. On this day, the National Award Arjuna and Dronacharya awards are awarded for outstanding performance in the game. Indian Olympic Association declared Dhyanchand the player of the century.
